The cat's back! First official picture of Anne Hathaway as Catwoman in The Dark Knight Rises released

By SARAH BULL and MIKE LARKIN

Going hell for leather: The first official photo of Anne Hathaway as Catwoman in The Dark Knight Rises has now been released

Batman bosses have kept fans guessing with how Anne Hathaway is going to portray Catwoman in upcoming movie The Dark Knight Rises.

And now, with the first official photo of the actress in character, it seems Catwoman is going to be tougher than ever in the sequel.

While Hathaway's outfit can't really be seen, it appears the 28-year-old actress is wearing a black leather catsuit, with a zip up the front, teamed with a pair of black goggles and lashings of red lipstick.

Don't mess with her: Anne looks like a lean mean machine as she rides a futuristic motorbike

The shot shows Catwoman on a motorbike, which looks very similar to the one owned by Batman in the last film, The Dark Knight Rises.

Very little information has been revealed about the storyline of the new film, in which Hathaway stars as Selina Kyle, also known as Catwoman.

However, a source recently told Hollywoodlife.com of Anne's Catwoman costume: 'Anne's outfit is more tactical, like the comic book, than the previous Batman movies.

Heads down: Bodies fall to the floor as Anne whizzes around on her extraordinary vehicle

Previous incarnations: Halle Berry as Catwoman in the 2004 film and Michelle Pfeiffer in the role in 1992 movie Batman Returns

'She will definitely be wearing the goggles, and it's going to be less sexy than Halle Berry and Michelle Pfeiffer's Catwoman costumes. She's going to look more like a robber.'

Hathaway was yesterday spotted on the set of the new film, showing off her legs in a pair of tiny black shorts.

Anne, who was wearing heavy make-up, chatted with a member of the production staff while she stretched her legs during a spot of down time.

Clawfully good-looking: Hathaway showed off the wonderful form that landed her the part of Catwoman in The Dark Knight Rises during filming in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania

Caught in the act: Marion Cotillard is snapped as she takes part in a scene for the upcoming film

Prepations: A stuntman was seen on Catwoman's bike on the set earlier in the day

Although the ladies on set provided the glamour, it was the stunt men who generated the excitement.

One was seen shooting down a set of stairs in a exotically-designed motorbike during one of the more thrilling moments of the day.

The Dark Knight Rises also stars Christian Bale, Morgan Freeman and Michael Caine and is set to be released in July 2012.

'The Batman has to come back': New movie The Dark Knight Rises looks the darkest yet as teaser trailer surfaces

The trailer has now hit the internet and fans around the world are beginning to speculate that in this film Bruce Wayne, played by Christian Bale, may have met his match with genetically built super-villain Bane.

Tom Hardy stars as Bane, the man who breaks the back of Batman in the original comic book series, and from the trailer it appears Bane is the new 'Dark Knight' destroying Gotham City as we see the city's skyscrapers falling down.

Crime busters: Gary Oldman plays a sick and barely able to move Commissioner Gordon begging Bruce Wayne to bring back Batman

There is a hint towards the return of Liam Neeson's character, Ra's al Ghul, as he provides a voiceover for the film.

He can be heard saying: 'If you make yourself more than just a man, if you devote yourself to an ideal, then you become something else entirely. A legend, Mr. Wayne, a legend.'

The Dark Knight ended with Batman having to go into hiding after taking the blame for the destruction caused by the Joker and Harvey 'Two-face' Dent.

But in this new apocalyptic style trailer, a gravely ill bed-ridden Commissioner Gordon is asking his crime-fighting friend to return.

'We were in this together, and then you were gone,' says Gordon, played by Gary Oldman. 'And now this evil rises. The Batman has to come back.'

The evil that is rising is Bane and several shots of the huge villain are mixed in with the final moments of the trailer.

Fear factor: Bruce Wayne overcomes his phobia of bats in Batman Begins

Among these images is also the first shot of Christian Bale as Batman looking worse for wear during an encounter with an imposing figure, believed to be Bane.

The trailer ends with Gotham City's skyscrapers crumbling down in a shape of the Bat symbol which suggests this may be the end of the Batman.

Anne Hathaway's Catwoman and Joseph Gordon-Levitt's John Blake are not seen in the trailer and the rumoured introduction of 'the boy wonder' Robin is also missing.

The Dark Knight Rises has an estimated budget of $250million but director Christopher Nolan has confirmed it will not be shot in 3D but he will use IMAX cameras for the action sequences.

The Dark Knight Rises is due for release in the UK on 20th July 2012.
