New look: Vanessa Hudgens was yesterday spotted with a sleek black bob as she went shopping in Los Angeles

She stunned fans last month when she revealed she had hacked off her own hair for her role in upcoming movie Gimme Shelter.

Since then, Vanessa Hudgens has tried to get round her 'soccer mom' crop by sporting a series of different wigs.

Yesterday, the 22-year-old actress stepped out with a sleek black bob as she went shopping with her sister Stella in Los Angeles.

And High School Musical starlet Vanessa looked delighted with her new 'do, smiling for the cameras as she indulged in some retail therapy.

Wearing a grey tribal-print maxi dress and black hat, Vanessa teamed her outfit with several long beaded necklaces and black boots.

Deciding to have some fun with the paparazzi, Vanessa also turned her hand to photography, trying to snap the photographers with her own camera as she left the store.

Earlier in the week, Vanessa was seen out and about with long black hair, after apparently donning a wig or temporary hair extensions to get around her crop.

The actress told Access Hollywood recently that she wasn't a fan of her movie look.

She said: 'Honestly, I kind of feel like a soccer mom, but we're going to let that go.

'There's nothing wrong with soccer moms, but I'm only 22! I miss my hair, believe me, I do, but there's nothing I can do about it.'

Smoking hot: Vanessa Hudgens is caught puffing on a cigarette as she and a friend cruise through Hollywood

She's one of Disney's poster girls and has crafted something of a wholesome image due to that role.

But Vanessa Hudgens appears to have a naughty habit that could tarnish that butter-wouldn't-melt image.

The 22-year-old was caught smoking during a drive through Hollywood - and tried to hide the evidence.

While cruising down La Cienega and Santa Monica, photographers caught the actress having a puff on a cigarette while in the passenger seat of a companion's car.

However, Vanessa was none too pleased at being caught having a cheeky puff and soon ditched the smoking evidence before jumping out of her car in a loose fitting see-through grey dress and knee-high boots.

It's not the first time Vanessa has seen her image tarnished.

Vanessa, who poses with a pair of kittens on the cover of the new issue of America's Glamour magazine, also tells how she gets scared on the red carpet.

She added: 'When I was younger, I used to be super, super shy. I still find myself being scared of things.'

'Going to events gives me such anxiety,' she told the publication.

'I get hot flashes! I can't breathe, and I get claustrophobic. It's a very odd business. I do it because I love acting, but I don't know if I'll ever get used to it.'
